Formed in the fall of 2000, Scarlet Empyrean began as a melodic metal band paired with vocals primarily inspired by black metal. Their music is an intricately woven combination of the members' vastly varied influences, and over time evolved into a more progressive instrumental post-metal sound while dropping the vocals entirely.

The band went on hiatus in 2008 and reformed in 2016 for a string of live shows in Albuquerque's local metal scene from 2017 to 2019.

In 2022, they reassembled and remastered their debut 2002 EP Asphyxiate, and are currently working on a rerecording of their 2004 EP Damask Luna.

Their full-length debut Tinged By Fire is out on October 13 2023!
